What You Need to Know About applying to Oakland Public Charter Schools: Enrollment Open Now for School Year 2023-24 

We hope that you had a restful long weekend!  The Oakland Public Charter Schools Application for School Year 2023-2024 is now open! You can apply now at OaklandEnrolls.org. If you have a child starting transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, middle, or high school, or you are interested in changing schools for the next school year, now is the time to explore and apply. Applying to multiple schools before the February 3rd deadline is the best way to increase your chances of getting into a school of your choice.

    • Only takes a few minutes
    • Allows you to apply to nearly all of Oakland’s public charter schools with one application 
    • Can also be completed over the phone by Oakland Enrolls staff (510-454-9360)
  • If you have a child starting Transitional kindergarten, transitioning to middle or high school, or you are interested in changing schools for the next school year, now is the time to explore and apply. If you’re already in a school you want to stay in for the upcoming school year, you don’t need to reapply. 
  • Be sure to apply by the deadline: February 3, 2023. On-time applications for charter schools are included in random selection processes aka school lotteries. Applications that come in after the deadline are placed on waiting lists behind those who don’t get a seat in the lottery.
  • It’s important to apply to more than one school because enrollment isn’t guaranteed, especially at the most in-demand schools, which may have more applications than seats available. It is good to have a backup plan by applying to multiple schools – and to apply on or before the February 3rd deadline.

  • Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten Age Eligibility 
    • Kindergarten eligibility: Your child must turn 5 on or before September 1 (birthday on or before September 1, 2019) of the school year applying for (SY23-24) in order to be eligible to apply to Kindergarten 
    • NEW: Eligibility for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) has expanded to include all children turning 5 between September 2 and April 2 of the school year applying for (SY23-24). If your child’s birthday is between September 2, 2019 and April 2, 2019, they are eligible for TK

This website provides easy access to detailed information about each of Oakland’s charter schools and can be used to search for charter schools near your neighborhood, or by address and school name and also by grade. The school profiles include information about the types of instruction styles and programs the schools provide as well as each school’s demographics and performance data.
