Choice is not Access: A Parent’s Journey in Oakland’s School “System” – Great School Voices – I  would do anything for my sons, especially when it comes to their education. I’ve spent more than a decade volunteering in Oakland Public Schools – my oldest son, Lejon, is 19 now and my youngest, Tyran, is 10. I’ve volunteered in Tyran’s elementary school from 1st grade to his current 4th grade classroom. I know everything there is to know about the school itself – but until this year, I didn’t know about the system or how it works.

Almost All of the McClymonds High School Class of 2018 is College-Bound – 60 McClymonds High School (Mack) graduating seniors who are heading to college next school year. That’s 60 out of 62 total seniors.

Oakland School Board Surprised by Proposed Deal to Sell City-Owned Land to Charter School for Expansion | East Bay Express – The OUSD board wasn’t told about the deal until last week and say it interferes with their efforts to plan school facilities and enrollments.

Oakland Council Steps Up to Provide Clean Drinking Water for Oakland’s Students – Oakland Post – Ribbon-cutting for the new hydration station at Joaquin Miller Elementary School. Funding to come from Oakland Soda Tax and Alameda County Board of Education.
