SAVE THE DATE: We Return Live for Access Lit: Last Mile for Digital Equity on Friday, May 13th, at Noon!

I hope everyone is ready to head into a wonderful weekend and finds time to relax and rejuvenate. A group of folx who were touched by Dirk’s work and his impact on Oakland convened last Sunday afternoon to celebrate Dirk at his favorite neighborhood “watering hole,” Degrees Plato, located in the Laurel District.

From left to right: Kennan Scott, Jumoke Hinton-Hodge, Amber Childress, Christyl Perkins, and Coron Brinson.

Jumoke Hinton-Hodge, Amber Childress, Kennan Scott, his son, and SFUSD teacher Christyl Perkins joined in the celebration of Degrees Plato’s 5th anniversary! In true Dirk style, we ordered IPA’s and talked about the vision of State of Black Oakland Education, Great School Voices, and more insight into the new Digital Divide.  We poured libations in honor of our ancestor, Dirk.

We are also excited to set the date for our broadcast series entitled Access Lit: Last Mile For Digital Equity, led by the inimitable Kennan Scott!  The broadcast will continue Dirk’s conversation and then some, building upon from his last series Access Granted: Desegregate the Internet.

Live every two weeks, Kennan will launch a special inaugural broadcast Friday, May 13th at 12 noon PST. He’ll talk about the impact of Dirk’s work on him and how he’s taken himself From Watching to Leading on our collective journey to making internet Access Lit.
